Digestion & Nutrition for Wellness & Healthy Living

A pandemic isn’t the only time we want to be conscious of our health and wellness, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to revisit essentials - like digestion - right now.

As part of the Lifestyle Consulting that I do clients learn individualized tools for healing, vitality and ongoing wellness. Part of that is digestion - because you'll want to learn how to develop a strong digestive system and optimize your digestion to support a healthy body and immune system.

As a short explanation and introduction, Ayurveda’s mind-body approach, on which the precepts of Perfect Health Consulting are based (i.e., my Lifestyle Consulting service), differs from typical Western nutrition or health coaching. For instance, we look at the individual and specifically your body type and situation to create the best plan to achieve wellness and balance.

The healing program is individualized, preventative and participatory – the client is a fully engaged participant in the process. Developing healthy digestion and keeping the gut balanced is instrumental in maintaining a healthy immune system.

"Nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than the mind. Freedom from illness depends upon expanding our own awareness, bringing it into balance, and then extending that balance to the body." - The Chopra Center for Wellbeing

Keeping Digestion Strong

Much of our health – and our immunity - begins in our gut.  So, it’s no surprise that you’ll find we will focus on healthy digestion in Lifestyle Consulting and all of our Perfect Health Classes. Right now, we‘re probably all overindulging more than usual with snacks, desserts, and maybe alcohol. It’s a tough situation when we’re largely indoors and comfort-eating. I hope you’ll join me in trying to avoid toxic substances like artificial sweeteners and processed foods, at a minimum.

If you are feeling a little bloated or if your gut is “talking” to you after snacks or meals, it’s a sign that your digestion may need to be strenghtened. After eating, we should feel good, energized. No significant burps, noisy intestinal action, gas, or bloating. Does this sound familiar? If so, it may be time to work on optimizing your digestion.

One easy way you can help optimize digestion is with warm liquids. It’s true - and so simple to make part of your daily routine. It helps flush out toxins that build up and keep things moving – even when we’re not able to.

4 Warm Drink Tips to Optimize Digestion

  1. Drink a cup of hot water with lemon or lime first thing in the morning  (coffee drinkers – drink water first for optimum benefit)
  2. Drink hot or warm water throughout the day, instead of icy cold liquids
  3. Start with 4 cups per day, gradually increasing to 6
  4. Drink Green tea

Let me know how this works for you – I’m interested to hear about your results.

With gratitude,

In addition to the food, you put into your body, that the best way to keep your digestion strong on a day-to-day basis is with your daily lifestyle practices.
